Channel 5 to launch catch-up channel, 5 Later

Channel 5 are to launch their first catch-up channel, 5 Later

Channel 5 are set to launch their first catch-up channel in January next year across Sky, Freesat and Freeview – in a similar style to Channel 5’s 4Seven.

5 Later will feature selections of the most popular shows that have recently aired on the channel. This includes the upcoming series of Celebrity Big Brother which starts in January. The channel has already appeared on Freeview with a placeholder being launched on Channel 55.

The launch of the channel will expand C5’s portfolio, which includes 5* and 5USA along with the flagship channel.

Channel 5 also operates a +1 channel across Freeview, Sky and Freesat, but the rollout of 5 Later is thought to be designed to expand the broadcaster’s viewing share, increasing its reach for advertisers.

C5 chief operating officer Paul Dunthorne said: “Our ambition is to give our viewers as many chances as possible to view our programmes – whether via devices or a new channel like 5 Later. The new channel means we can offer an ever stronger Channel 5 service to our viewers.”

Celebrity Big Brother’s latest series will be the first to be featured on Channel 5’s new channel in January.
