Day 15: 11,000 complaints recorded by Ofcom after Roxanne CBB controversy

Roxanne Pallett has sparked a Celebrity Big Brother controversy, with Ofcom recording 11,000 complaints since last night’s highlights show.

Viewers were left appalled after Roxanne accused fellow housemate Ryan Thomas of punching her “like a boxer would hit a punching bag”. Ryan was play fighting with Roxanne while they were joking and doing their laundry. Roxanne later broke down into tears and demanded to know why Ryan hadn’t been removed from the house.

Roxanne demanded to be called to the Diary Room by Big Brother and slept in the spare room overnight.

Over 11,000 complaints have since been recorded by Ofcom about the incident. A spokesperson for Ofcom said “We are assessing these complaints against our broadcasting rules, before deciding whether or not to investigate.”

A Channel 5 spokesperson told Standard Online: “Big Brother takes contributor welfare extremely seriously and is proud of the robust assessment and welfare systems in place.

“All potential contributors are thoroughly assessed by psychologists before being considered for the show and a team dedicated to contributor welfare is on hand to support housemates throughout the series and beyond.”

Celebrity Big Brother continues tonight at 9pm with the third live eviction.
