Day 64: Ofcom clears Big Brother of Helen’s “murderer” comment

Ofcom have cleared Big Brother – despite having over 2,000 complaints.

Ofcom have ruled that Big Brother will not be investigated after they recorded over 2,000 complaints about an episode which saw Big Brother 15 winner, Helen Wood, tell Big Brother 8 winner, Brian Belo, that he looked like a rapist and a murderer.

The remarks eventually lead to the Big Brother legend scaling the garden wall and leaving the House, despite only having a few days left in the House.

“We were satisfied that Channel 5 had broadcast clear and appropriate warnings about the potentially offensive content, and that it intervened in heated exchanges and situations at appropriate times,” said a spokesperson.

“We also took into account audience expectations for this reality format and the fact that the series was broadcast after the watershed”.

Helen is seen as one of the most controversial Housemates in Big Brother history, with some of her comments in last years’ series causing it to become the most complained about television show of 2014.

Ofcom have also removed 360 complaints about other moments of the show. Big Brother continues at 10pm tonight with the latest highlights from Day 63.
