Day 8: “Stardust is gone”: Angie reacts to David Bowie’s death

Celebrity Big Brother have aired the first piece of footage of Angie’s reaction to hearing the news of her ex-husbands death – but the footage has caused upset among viewers.

It was announced yesterday that the 69 year old singer had passed away on Sunday following a battle with cancer, and it was later confirmed by Channel 5 that Angie – David’s ex-wife – would be told of his passing.

Angie was informed of the news during an off-camera meeting with her representatives before deciding to return to the Big Brother House to continue taking part in the programme.

“I haven’t seen him for so many years, I can’t make a big drama out of it. I just feel like an era has ended with his passing, I’m so very sad.” said Angie in the Diary Room while talking to Big Brother. Angie was seen asking for fellow Housemates David Gest and John Partridge while exclaiming that “the stardust has gone”.

The footage was shown at the end of last night’s highlights show where a trailer for the next episode saying “Tomorrow on Celebrity Big Brother” was aired.

This has lead to the anger of viewers who have accused Channel 5 of using the death of Bowie as a clear attempt to publicize the show.

During tonight’s show, Big Brother calls Angie to the diary room, and off camera she meets her Agent who tells her the very sad news that her ex-husband, music legend, David Bowie has passed away. Angie decides she would like to stay in the house and returns to the diary room.

Big Brother asks Angie how she is feeling, she replies, “I’m fine. I think I’ll feel better if I cry, but I can’t cry at the moment. I haven’t seen him in so many years, I can’t make a big drama out of it; I just feel like an era has ended with his passing. I’m so very sad.” Angie then starts to cry, and Big Brother tells her to take her time, as there is no rush to go back into the house. Big Brother calls John and David to the diary room, to offer Angie some support.

In the diary room, both John and David are shocked by the news that Angie has told them, and they offer their support. She remarks, “The Stardust is gone.” John asks her if she wants to keep this news private, she says yes and they both tell her they won’t say anything.

Angie confirms she’s happy to go back into the house, and John and David advise her to say she’s just feeling unwell. John and David accompany Angie back into the living area.
