Nick Leeson was forced into the spotlight over 20 years ago when he caused the collapse of Barings Bank. During Nick’s early years at Barings he was making the company huge profits and earning bonuses of up to £150,000. In 1993 he made £10M for the company. Nick spent nine months battling the authorities and was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison for forgery and fraud.
About his time in Celebrity Big Brother, he said:
“The media storm the ensued my going on the run from Singapore is something I suppose I’m still coming to terms with today. I like a challenge, I think it will be a challenge, the one thing I am already telling myself is that it is only for a few weeks rather than the four and a half years I spent prison. I live and let live, I don’t think there’s necessarily a stereotype that’s going to rub me up the wrong way. I think everyone has a right to live their life the way that they do.”
