The early start marks the first time since Big Brother 8 in 2007 that the series has launched in May. The series will now clash with Britain’s Got Talent and the final of the Eurovision Song Contest – both of which get high ratings. Channel 4 moved Big Brother to June in 2008 after the eighth series suffered a loss of 1 Million viewers during the live week.

Big Brother is also going head to head with stiff competition from the Eurovision Song Contest, with the final airing on Saturday 23rd May on BBC One. The final last year attracted 8.8 Million viewers.
