Pre-BB: Channel 5 confirm Big Brother launch during Election Week

Channel 5’s move sees the new series of Big Brother clash with the week of the General Election, with the first full week of content airing during the first week in June.

The broadcaster today issued advanced programming information for June 3rd – June 9th, with Big Brother included within that PI.

This means that bar any final minute changes, Big Brother is going to clash with the final days of campaigning for party leaders for the snap election. An exact date for the launch is expected to be confirmed later next week.

A weekend launch is however now looking unlikely as ITV will be airing the final of Britain’s Got Talent during the same weekend, as well as airing the live British Soap Awards.

Big Brother often schedules to avoid clashing with the talent show, which regularly brings in large ratings for ITV. Big Brother could have been deliberately put in this week to match with the election thanks to the “political” theme of the series, seeing the Best of Britain enter the House.
